Soak Up the Sunshine at These Must-See Places in Champaign-Urbana

|

Soak up the last of the summer sunshine as we head toward fall 2021 at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, with these awesome outdoor destinations near HERE Champaign.

Market at the Square

Whether you’re all about being an eco-friendly consumer, are looking to do something different on a Saturday morning, or both, you’re in luck! Market at the Square is a local farmers market in the Chambana area, near Lincoln Square Mall, and it’s open 7 AM to noon every Saturday until the last weekend of October. Planning to go ahead of time? Check out this map to see which vendors will be there.

Curtis Orchard

Have you ever been apple picking on a farm? Well, this is finally your chance! Curtis Orchard is where you want to be on a sunny afternoon after class. So grab a group of your friends and carpool there – it’s just over 6 miles south of HERE Champaign. $7 gets you in with an accompanying bag to hold 8 to 10 apples from your U-pick session in the orchard. Candid photo-op, anyone?

Jarling’s Custard Cup

It’s still summer, which means ice cream is definitely on the menu. This Champaign classic is a must-try with freshly made waffle cones, ice cream sandwiches, and unique flavors rotating each week. Situated just a mile and a half from HERE Champaign and only about 6 blocks from U of I, there’s no missing this ice cream shop before the summer season ends.

Slow Ride Pedal Tours

If you’re looking for something fun to do near U of I, this is it! Grab 14 of your fave friends and hop aboard a two-hour long pedal cruise through the streets of downtown Champaign. With reservations available anywhere from noon to 8 PM Thursday through Sunday, there’s a Slow Ride time slot with your name on it. Book for either Thursday or Sunday for a $350 private ride – but don’t let that price tag scare you away! Bringing along 14 people means you’ll be paying just $25 per person for two hours of sightseeing through the city. It’s open to anyone aged 18 and over.

Cheers to a Good Time in Champaign

Whether you’re pedaling your way through downtown, kicking back in the hot tub on our rooftop lounge, or picking apples right off a tree, there are countless things to do outdoors in Champaign as we make our way into fall.
